Social Media Fundraiser For Burundi Women Empowerment: Dance Party Utrecht
Utrecht is where everything happens in the Netherlands, and I live there. Utrecht trainstation(don’t believe that guy lol) and shopping center Hoog Catharijne is the crossroad of all trains that go from north to south or from east to west. Utrecht is the city with a reputation for traffic jams and political meetings and lobby groups. But it’s also the city at the crossroads of social media. Last year october I was at the Dutch WordPress conference in Hoogcatharijne to meet and learn from fellow bloggers. July 16th a fundraiser for the association Women in action for Burundi will take place in Utrecht. The « Black & White Party » in sportcafe De Dreef, schooneggendreef 27 will be a great opportunity to test the effectiveness of social media for fundraising and increasing awareness about the life of Burundi women. It’s also an opportunity for us to connect with those interested in having a good time, Burundi, music, dancing, blogging in Utrecht, social media in Utrecht, blogging for events and blogging for development cooperation. It’s an opportunity to connect with fellow dwellers in Utrecht overvecht. An opportunity to meet the Burundian diaspora and learn about Burundian culture. An opportunity to celebrate the fiftieth anniversery of Utrecht Overvecht.
I live in Utrecht, this gives me the wonderfull opportunity to participate in events like Dutch Wordcamp and social media club Utrecht, the largest social media club in the Netherlands, where hundreds of people discuss the latest developments in social media and blogging. Where speakers like the famous Dutch WordPress SEO guru @yoast Joost Valk did not show up due to the birthday of his child and Isaac Keyet talked about mobile blogging.
The Dance Party on 16th july gives the association the possibility to learn about social media in action. in other words, it gives us a social object that enables us to go through the campaign process start to finish.
As a small association of Burundian diaspora women we think social media and blogging is crucial in getting our message across, to reach donors and to learn how to set up projects for development and empowerment that matter. As a relative new player in the field of development we want to learn from the traditional development players. We hope the traditional players will also want to learn from us! Together we might actually gain increased knowledge of 21st century fundraising, development cooperation, diaspora engagement and integration.
So wherever and whomever you are, you are invited to the dance and fundraising party on july 16th in Utrecht!
